Marijuana blights:

ant and marijauna leafI just came back from a friend who had a different gardening problem than I usually find. It was some stem disease on his Marijuana. I do not know much about this, but I did write him the following prophylactic steps until he finds out more.

Be it fungus or bacterial that infection on your plant is a serious issue and is being spread by your leaf pruning.

I suggest the following:

  1. Always sterilize those scissors when trimming of the leaves when you go from one plant to another. Clorox (hard on the tools) TSP dip, or I use strong industrial strength Alcohol that you can buy at the drug or grocery store.
  2. If a fungus, those spores can be spread by insects as well so this brings me to the other suggestion.

Isolate the plant most affected … and I mean down to the Orchard or the cleared area near the big Redwood tree. Far enough away, that gnats, whitefly or small wasps cannot reach the others. Greenhouse Area!

Bleach. Regular bleach only, not the strong stuff. A misting bottle would be the best way to apply it and I would do the WHOLE plant. Perhaps try it on one and see what happens. 6 oz. per gallon and the finer the spray the better. Trouble being foliage penetration as it is hard to get the undersides of the leaves and the application just drips off.

All it does is CONTROL the problem, it never cures it as the spores reside all over the plant and as your spray oxidizes away (minutes in the sun), and you are back to square one if you have cloudy damp days.

I do not know enough about the ‘organics’ of this but a commercial fungicide would be a better solution as it lasts longer. What the half-life of these are you would have to research and test. Captan etc.

The main thing is to STOP pruning and snipping with your shears from the diseased plant to the others. Remove it. Also, add some Ivory or Dove soap to the Clorox solution.

Copper Bordeaux (not pure copper spray would be the solution. ALL should be used in a more diluted form.

If it is a mold or mildew, the Clorox will work and so would Hydrogen Peroxide. Both oxidize off and would need to be done again with each new outbreaks. The property up on the hill would be far better to grow these plants, as it is constantly breezy up there.

Oh, I forgot a big one. Mark all you plants with a small stick or marker on the South side of the pot, facing the sun. Therefore, when you move the plants around you re-orient them in the same direction.

Moving the plant otherwise can result in the North facing side with the happy roots now suddenly exposed to much more heat and you will find a sudden and unexpected wilt until the now heated roots repair and adjust.

  1. Pruning out the large leaves to allow for more light and heat to further flower growth is well and dandy, but not if the plant is diseased and you go from one to another, or if they are too tightly positioned.

Good pruning for air circulation is a must for all plants. Just make sure you are not spreading spores or bacteria in the doing.

  2. I do have a domain name called (burningerb.com). Just never put anything on it.

Waiting for the inspiration and time I guess.
